Psalm 45
For the director of music. To the tune of “Lilies.” Of the Sons of Korah. A maskil. A wedding song.
1 My heart is stirred by a noble theme
as I recite my verses for the king;
my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer.
2 You are the most excellent of men
and your lips have been anointed with grace,
since God has blessed you forever.
Commentary: The most excellent of men are those out of whose lips come grace rather than harshness and condemnation.
Prayer: May I be that man, dear Father, who shows more understanding and grace to those who need it, and most people need it these days. Bless _____ as he needs to correct his ways of mess and disorder into order and harmony with You. The journey will not be easy, but it will be possible to do it. Amen
Commentary: It is verse 2 that I am choosing to expand upon:
Isaiah 33:17 Your eyes will see the King in His beauty and behold a land that stretches afar.
Commentary: By faith in Your redemption work, dear Jesus, King of Kings, we know that this planet belongs to You in spite of what we may observe around us.
Song of Solomon 5:10-16 My beloved is dazzling and ruddy, outstanding among ten thousand. / His head is purest gold; his hair is wavy and black as a raven. / His eyes are like doves beside the streams of water, bathed in milk and mounted like jewels. …
Reflection: Men, in general, from time to time, need to be told good things about themselves from those who are closest to them.
Hebrews 1:8-9 But about the Son He says: “Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever, and justice is the scepter of Your kingdom. / You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, Your God, has anointed You above Your companions with the oil of joy.”
Reflection: To be anointed by the Lord is to have joy of this saving daily relationship with Him. That is something we do not need to hold to ourselves, but can share with others.
John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Prayer: Thank you Jesus Christ for coming to live on this planet in order to model how sacrificial God’s love is.
Luke 4:22 All spoke well of Him and marveled at the gracious words that came from His lips. “Isn’t this the son of Joseph?” they asked.
Commentary: Jesus Christ was a fully human being.
Isaiah 61:1-3 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is on Me, because the LORD has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and freedom to the prisoners, / to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor and the day of our God’s vengeance, to comfort all who mourn, / to console the mourners in Zion—to give them a crown of beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, and a garment of praise for a spirit of despair. So, they will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.
Commentary: So many of us think, in our confusions, that we have everything that we need and that we are in the need of nothing. When our spiritual eyes are open and we see who we truly are, we can respond to the working of the Holy Spirit and follow Him.
Matthew 12:42 The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and now One greater than Solomon is here.
Commentary: Jesus has consistently modelled who the Father was so that nobody would have an excuse for not knowing God’s character.
Colossians 2:3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Proverbs 16:24 Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.
John 7:46 “Never has anyone spoken like this man!” the officers answered.
Reflection: I am sure that Jesus Christ spoke well to people and what He had to share attracted people to God.
Revelation 1:13-16 and among the lampstands was One like the Son of Man, dressed in a long robe, with a golden sash around His chest. / The hair of His head was white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes were like a blazing fire. / His feet were like polished bronze refined in a furnace, and His voice was like the roar of many waters. …
Reflection: I like the fact that Jesus Christ is amongst us through the presence of the Holy Spirit.
1 Peter 2:22 “He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in His mouth.”
Commentary: Jesus Christ has not committed a single sin in attitude nor in action. What a great life!
Isaiah 9:6-7 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. / Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish and sustain it with justice and righteousness from that time and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of Hosts will accomplish this.
Philippians 2:9-11 Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name above all names, / that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, / and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Ephesians 4:7-8 Now to each one of us grace has been given according to the measure of the gift of Christ. / This is why it says: “When He ascended on high, He led captives away and gave gifts to men.”
Prayer: Thank you Father for the gift of life everlasting that we have as we stay in a healthy, balanced saving relationship with Jesus Christ. Amen
